The Bad Seed
Is evil in human beings innate, or is it acquired as a result of what they see and experience? As always, I am sure that the answers will vary and that no answer will satisfy those who think otherwise.
The reason I ask this question is because of the behavior of the child character I saw in the 2018 film The Bad Seed. Emma (played by Mckenna Grace), the daughter of a very calm and understanding father, is a character so full of evil that you cannot answer what the source of evil could be because she is still a child.
The above question is all I could think of while watching the character. Is evil really an innate trait in some people? When I apply the question to my own life and the people around me, several answers emerge. The most important one is that, at least in some of us, evil is a seed and is innately embedded in our consciousness, waiting for an opportunity to flourish.
Of course, there will be those who think otherwise, but if you have observed people who are still in the race to do evil in the midst of so much goodness and have had a hard time making sense of it, I think you will understand exactly what I want to say. Mckenne Grace gives an excellent performance from start to finish, perfectly managing both her good and bad sides and managing to deceive people by revealing whichever one she wants to highlight.
She manages to be the main element of a very thought-provoking and impressive story with her character Emma and the way she spreads the evil she brings out with her mental transitions. In fact, I would say that she even outshines the story for the character. They have created a character that fits the story perfectly.
I realize that I put the story of the film on the back burner because of the character's impressive performance, but I don't think I'm being unfair to the story in a production where I think the character should be talked about first.
First of all, the movie contains elements of psychological suspense, and the storyline is sufficiently balanced. The story of the movie and the character success, which I praise, does not zigzag, but continues along the same line. This causes the sense of curiosity to be triggered enough while watching the movie and time flows quickly.
The dangerous nature of the main character is revealed by the fact that despite the suspicious deaths of those around him, he never makes anyone doubt him. The fact that the character, whose self-confidence increases after each incident and whose dark side is revealed more dominantly, is still a child makes the story more interesting to follow.
The movie was flawless both in terms of the audience and the character created and his subsequent development. The performances of the actors and the impressive handling of the story add to the immersiveness of the movie. I can say that each milestone of success has a domino effect on the story.
A few criticisms can be made about the father figure. As a weak personality who gives up easily despite everything, I can say that he becomes detached from the story towards the end of the movie. Had a stronger father character been created, one who does not give up on his daughter easily, the story could have been seen as more successful than it is.
I recommend watching The Bad Seed, which offers viewers the opportunity to think deeply about the psychology of a dark child. It is a production that combines suspense and psychological drama and makes the audience think. Reflecting the inherent good and evil of being human with the same character puts the story in a different format.
Thank you for being here and reading. Take care and goodbye!
