Wildling

I would say that the movie Wildling is a character-driven story. It is the dramatic story of Anna (played by Bel Powley) who has been forced into an isolated life since childhood by someone she knows as her father.

The film was quite remarkable with its supernatural theme, mysterious atmosphere and a story that symbolizes the transition from childhood to adolescence. Of course, there are reasons for all this, and those reasons go to the extent of justifying isolation.

Okay, let's remove the mystery a bit and admit that this is another werewolf movie, or should I say werewolf woman? Lol

Anna has been raised in isolation since she was a baby and her coming of age has been delayed as long as possible. The fact that the person who did this to her is the one she knows as “Daddy” (played by Brad Dourif) makes the story more dramatic.

However, the progression of the story, which is kept quite mysterious, often makes the viewer involuntarily question one contradictory query after another while watching the movie. As the story progresses, which you cannot understand at the beginning and contains a lot of reasons, it eliminates the gaps and provides an integrity that we can think of as appropriate for fiction.

I must say that I found the mystery aspect of the movie absolutely successful, but what I found most successful was the distance Anna traveled in the process of adapting to the outside life.

There were a few details in the story that I had a hard time understanding. One of them was Anna's pregnancy process.

A fast process that broke the success momentum of the movie was tried to be fed to the audience pointlessly. Those moments carried the movie even beyond the fantasy world. We remember this fast process from the Alien movies, but there, the story was made relevant through the creatures using humans as incubators.

The scenes shot in the forest and the dark tones used in the movie supported the supernatural identity of the character. Compared to other werewolf movies I have seen, the transformation process was shorter but more meaningful.

The process of Anna's isolation and the reasons for it gave extra viewing pleasure thanks to the integrity provided at the end of the story. The character of Anna, who reflects both her fragile and wild side well, had a successful performance that added value to the movie.

I think that the character development and the success of the external life in the process of maturing any living being is worth seeing. The fact that Anna's search for identity is treated with a supernatural transformation allows us to see her as the rules of nature's functioning instead of seeing her as a monster.

Wildling was successful in its unique way of reflecting the horror-thriller genre. I definitely recommend you to watch it. Especially after the story moves to nature, it turns into a battle for existence where inner conflicts come to the fore and offers extra viewing pleasure.

Thank you for being here and reading. Take care and goodbye!

the plot you describe sounds interesting but it makes me doubt whether to watch it or not after reading your full review. 🤔
