Troy Starring Brad Pitt Is a Blast From the Not So Distant Past!

Troy is a War/Action film loosely based on The Iliad written by the Greek poet Homer and Aeneid written by the Roman poet Virgil.
I watched the movie many times when it first came out back in 2004 but it’s been a while so I decided to buy a digital copy online. I actually had the joy of getting to watch this one with my wife and it was her first time seeing it so that made this viewing extra special.
The movie is a pretty decent length at 163 minutes so we unfortunately had to watch it in multiple sittings. We stay pretty busy so getting through a full movie can be challenging for my household. If you can watch it in one sitting I definitely recommend pursuing that route as it’s much more enjoyable and suspenseful in one sitting.
Brad Pritt is the lead actor staring as Achilles in this film but the film has other famous actors as well. Some of the other famous actors are Sean Bean as Odysseus, Diane Kruger as Helen of Troy, Brian Cox as Agamemnon, Eric Bana as Hector, and Orlando Bloom as Paris.
This is not a low budget film by any means. The film had a budget of about $185 million but was a box office success by pulling in a healthy $497 million at the box office. This was in 2004 mind you, these are good numbers even today but this was particularly exceptional box office performance for the time.
Overall the movie does not disappoint unless you are married to how the original Iliad and Aeneid stories are written. This movie does vary quite a bit from the poems. I personally like the adaptation and think they did a good job following high level aspects of the story while tweaking other parts to keep the story more interesting and fresh.
The battle scenes are exciting and will keep you on the edge of your seat. If I was going to compare, I would say the battle scenes are similar in kind to what you would see in The Lord of the Rings films. However, the battle scenes in Troy are not as big and take up less time of the overall movie.
The story is not all battles and warfare. There is quite a bit of time spent on developing the characters and following the love stories of the various main charters.
I was not a huge fan of the ending of the film, I feel like it was wrapped up a little too quickly and could have been more exciting. Part of this feeling probably has to do with the film as a whole is very epic and exciting to watch; this created really high expectations for me on how good the ending should be.
This movie is rated R and has some nudity and quite a bit of violence from sword fighting and the bows and arrows. It’s not the most violent film but still probably good to watch before showing the kiddos so you know which scenes not to let them see.
In conclusion, it’s a great film and has everything you would expect from a high budget film staring Brad Pitt. Brad Pitt makes you believe he is Achilles and you will find yourself hungry for more of his story. I will keep this one in my movie rotation and look forward to watching it with my wife again soon!
Until next time,

I have watched this film many times and I do not feel bored whenever I do so, it is worth watching over and over again even though I didn't like the fact that Troy died but story line can't be changed😃
Haha yes! I had a similar feeling. I wish the ending was different but still a good film! 🙂
