This is a science fiction film directed by Simon Wells and based on the novel of the same name by H.G. Wells, published in 1895.

The film features a mix of adventure, romance and reflection on time and humanity, and features a cast that includes Guy Pearce, Samantha Mumba, Mark Addy and Jeremy Irons.

The story begins in the year 1899, where the protagonist, Alexander Hartdegen (played by Guy Pearce), is a brilliant inventor and professor who is obsessed with the idea of time travel.

His life takes a tragic turn when his fiancée, Emma (Sienna Guillory), is murdered during a robbery. Devastated by the loss, Alexander immerses himself in his work and decides to build a time machine in the hope of changing the past and saving Emma.

After several failed attempts, Alexander finally manages to travel to the future, specifically to the year 802,701.

In this new world, he discovers a society divided between two races: the Eloi, peaceful and carefree beings who live on the surface, and the Morlocks, subterranean creatures who pose a threat to the Eloi.

As Alexander explores this dystopian future, he realises that his journey is not only an attempt to change his past, but also a quest to understand the nature of humanity and its evolution.

Throughout the film, Alexander is confronted with moral and ethical dilemmas about time and destiny. His relationship with the Eloi, especially a young girl named Mara (Samantha Mumba), allows him to reflect on the importance of human connection and sacrifice.

As the plot unfolds, Alexander becomes a hero who fights to protect the Eloi from the Morlocks and, at the same time, seeks answers about his own life and the meaning of time.
