Black Rose Movie....All That Glitters...

The storyline was very well written, especially halfway through, when there were twists and turns that brought fresh impetus to the whole drama, and for me, that makes "Black Rose" attention-grabbing.

It is a Nigerian movie directed by Okechukwu Oku. Going through Netflix, I was searching for a movie to watch and was immediately captivated by "Black Rose" because it has Blossom Chukwujekwu featured in it, (one of the lead actors),whose films I love so much.

"Black Rose" paints a clear and concise picture of the hardship people go through and the resilience they show. It blend themes of poverty, sacrifice, family, gender dynamics, innocence and betrayal. I will summarize the story plot without spoilers, so do not worry.

Black Rose revolves around a girl named Rose (Lillian Echelon), from a struggling family. After her father passed on, she had to drop out from school to help her mother in making ends meet.

Rose had an elder sister and two younger brothers, life was very hard on Rose and her family. They found it difficult to eat most times and as a result, Rose's elder sister (with no choice left) resorted to the red scarlet business, sleeping around for money to provide for the family. But her mother disapproved highly of this.

To survive, Rose's mother borrowed money to sell food in a mechanic’s compound and at the end made very little profit. As the story developed, she caught the attention of Desmond(Blossom Chukwujekwu)— an apparently wealthy man who showered Rose and her family with attention, money, and expensive gifts.

It was also at this time a young man—Nelo, who worked at the mechanic's workshop where Rose’s mother sold food, confessed his feelings for Rose but was turned down.

Rose's life took a surprising turn when she discovered Desmond's true intentions. Rose got entangled in a situation which led to unforeseen consequences. How was she able to overcome the challenges? or how did she find herself deeper into this huge mess?

Life's lessons could be learned in a very hardway and no matter one's situations in life, we should never loose our Faith in God.
It is also a call to action for all parents to be involved in the lives of their teenagers before things go awry.

This movie adequately reflects the consequences of blind trust, the cycle of poverty and then the desperation to be out of the gutters.

Although I felt the ending was rushed, in my candid opinion, it's a good watch and I highly recommend.
So I'll rate it a 7.5/10.
It's available to watch on Netflix.

Thank you for reading.
