The Prosecutor : A switch between professions

So I was having a chat with a friend of mine and how incredible and legendary Jackie Chan is and how he is second to know. But then, for some years now I've had my eyes on another incredible talent in Chinese movies who really manages to impress me whenever I watch his films. Much respect to Jackie Chan, but for me, after Jackie Chan I'd say it's this guy. This guy is no other than Donnie Yen. He stars in this movie titled The Prosecutor. And amazingly he also happened to be the director of the film.

In this film he plays the character Fok, he is the Protagonist of this film. At the start of the film, Fok was a cop. The beginning scene shows us how he and his team were going after a set of a gang. The beginning scene started with pure action. Fok even risked his life trying to save his colleague's life. But after all the effort of he and his team, corruption prevailed over justice after taking the leader of the gang, who was a drug mercenary. Fok saw how people who were supposed to serve justice abused their powers and decided to be a prosecutor. This required him dropping his barge as a cop.

After seven years of commitment and dedication, he emerged as a Prosecutor. This really inspired me, in the sense that you can be all that you want to be only if you set your mind to it. And did I forget to mention that this film was based on a true life story? Well, it is, which makes it even more fascinating. At the beginning of his journey as a Prosecutor he was given a case about a young boy who allegedly ordered some kilograms of hard drugs. Now this is where the movie gets really interesting.

However, the young boy in question claimed that he wasn't the one who owned the drugs but merely served as a middle man by making his house available to receive the package and keep if for the person who ordered for the package to collect it later on. He claimed that he had no idea what was in the package, that his job was just to receive it and keep it for the owner. This was how the young boy survived as his was a poor orphan who lived with his grandfather looking for ways to make ends meet.

Some man and a lady claiming to be working for the attorney gave him an offer to reduce his sentence if he pleaded guilty, telling him that he had no chance winning the case and pleading guilty was the best option he had. So the boy took it, not knowing that he was being manipulated. After being tried at court, and pleading guilty, he was sentenced to ten years. That was when it was clear to he and his grandfather that they were being deceived.

Fok began to suspect that something wasn't right. They managed to find a way go on a re-trail on the case. Even as a Prosecutor, Fok tried his best to defend the boy, which wasn't really his jurisdiction as a Prosecutor. Unfortunately, it turned against them and the boy was sentenced to 27 years. Turned out that the man that met the young boy claiming to help him was actually the person that used the boy's address to receive the drugs. To make things worse they killed his grandfather. Now this is where Fok got really pissed off and vowed to bring justice.

As an ex cop, he joined forces with his former colleagues in the police force along with this colleagues in the law firm and worked tirelessly in order to expose the criminals, set the young boy free and seek vengeance for the death of his grandfather who was murdered in cold blood. Even as a Prosecutor, he still remembered how beat up bad guys. One thing I really found kind of funny with his combat with the bad guys is how he beats them up but still tries to sustain their lives. Like for example, there was a scene where he beat up a bad guy and he was about falling off from the window of the train they where fighting in and he grabbed him back inside right before another train almost smashed the guy's face.

Prosecutor was a great watch. It had action moments. It has touching moments as well, just like when the colleague he risked his life for in the beginning met him later when he was a prosecutor which her son and appreciated him saving life because she was pregnant with her son during that incident and how he wouldn't b alive if he hadn't saved her life. I rate the movie 9.5 over 10. Donnie Yen once again didn't fail to impress me in this film.
