Always a book girlie - LOH #234

For someone with a lot of hobbies, and things to do, it sometimes is hard to make out time for everything. There are some hobbies I haven't even gone near in the past three months. And that's mostly because they involve time, which I don't seem to have on my side these days.

For the past few days, I've been watching more movies than I read books. Movies these days, have succeeded so far in keeping me entertained. Books? The ones I've been reading recently? Nahhh. They've been so unsatisfying. The week just started but surprisingly, I've finished two 12-episode series. If I tell you that earlier this year, I was finding it very hard to watch one movie, you might find it absurd. Then, I used about four days to watch a 1hr-30 mins movie. You see, I thought I'd never come out of it because it was my first time ever experiencing something like that but guess who's back now?

I'm a huge lover of both entertainment options - books and movies. I've watched amazing movies like blood sisters, Tomorrow, Arcane, and much more. I watched these movies, and forgot completely about everything going on around me, because of how engrossing their plot, cinematography, acting and everything was. But to be very honest, I'll pick books over movies if I'm asked to choose between both.

Books for me, aren't just words printed on paper. Rather, they are worlds painted in ink. With books, possibilities are endless. An author might describe something while I read, and if I don't find the description exciting enough, I go ahead to create a more befitting version in my head, in place of that which the author intended to describe. With books I can modify whatever world the author failed to picture well. I think I've said this before, in one of my posts but I like my imagination to run wild in whatever situation I find myself in. But sadly, I can't achieve that with movies.

In movies, we already have a definite representation of what our characters, and what our world is supposed to look like. In books, it's left to your understanding of the world as described. Everyone with their own understanding. I particularly think that's why monster romances sell better in books than they do movies. If most readers were given an adaptation of what their favourite monsters looked like, they will possibly lose interest. Same way, if I hear there's a movie adaptation of one of my favourite books, I might not watch it. To me, watching the human version of that perfect fictional character I have in my head, play out on my screen, would feel so wrong. So you mean the perfect character I've been fantasizing over for years now, is just a human with two eyes, one nose and two ears like me? Nahh, that'll destroy the perfectionism I like to ascribe to bookish fictional characters.

Books, provide that escape from reality more better than movies will ever do for me. I've always been a huge fan of them and hope to keep being obsessed with them. Although, I've been coming across too many unsatisfying storylines with books, as of late, I'll still go to them for that brief escape. So yes, as much as I'm a movie lover and I've been watching them more lately, I am, and always will be, a book girlie.

Thanks for Reading.

It's totally understandable, adaptations don't always turn out well for book readers. Only movie lovers just enjoy them without risking their imaginations lol.

They don't! Although it's unfair, it's mostly us (bibliophiles) that are causing it for ourselves. We imagine the book world as flawless, so when they are brought to life, we find them disappointing.

The moment I saw your name, I knew everything was going to be about books. I know you say you are enjoying movies now but let’s give you a month and see something please😂. And it just reminded me of that whole Moana 2 you watched too😂. I’m sure if there was a book, you’d have already read it by now. Because tell me why you’re still traumatized over that low quality incident 😂

I've become predictable now😂. You want to see what'll happen in one month? I might become a painter then oo😭😅.
If Moana 2 was based on a book, the trauma would never have happened in the first place. I would have left my imagination to the book and not traumatized myself 😂

Indeed! That is exactly how I see them! A source of entertainment with the ability to take you to where the story is. I can get lost in a book (or a movie as well) very easily, to the point that I might not hear you if you're speaking to me! I love to read, a joy that was born at a young age with my brother's 7th grade literary book from the class he was required to take. I was in the 4th grade at the time. I read his class's book cover to cover, thus beginning my love of reading!

Thank you for sharing and have a lovely day! !LADY

Getting engrossed in a book is one of the best feelings in the world. I can relate to it. When I was younger, all my literature books, and that of my siblings, I read them before we even started them in school. That feeling of reading is a wonderful feeling.

Thanks for reading. Have a lovely day as well

How was it terrible? It was a tragedy, so what did you expect?
