This Should Pay Me Too...

When it comes to hobbies, it’s something every one of us has. Some people have multiple things they do for fun, while others have only one or two things that bring them great joy and fulfillment. And while it’s not easy converting your hobby into a money-making scheme, in this day and age, it’s easier than it could have ever been.

This is a classic example of doing what you love for a living, that way, you’ll never get tired of it. Even if things get bad at some point, you might feel the need to quit and call it off. But the fact that it’s your hobby might cause you to give it a rethink.

As for me, do I have a paying hobby?

I’ve already spoken countless times on here about my writing, so I’m not going to bore you all with that today. Thankfully, writing is not the only skill or hobby I have that can get me money. I have other things I enjoy that have the potential to bring in the bucks for me.

Besides being an avid reader, I’m also a lover of movies. One can even argue that I’m addicted to it. I watch movies so much that it’s a wonder it doesn’t affect my work performance as it is. Hehe… I guess I’m not as addicted as I thought.

Anyway, I love watching movies. Especially action, mystery, and psychological flicks. I love movies that get you on the edge of your seat and have you thinking long and hard as you try to unravel them. Thankfully though, in this day and age, you no longer have to simply watch now. You can make loads of money by doing the same thing. And that’s reviews.

Movie reviews are something I’m looking to go into very soon. I started it a while back and I enjoyed it immensely, there was something great about sharing my opinions on a movie and having everyone else react to it. It’s like having one story, but everyone is getting a different perspective on it and trying to come to a common ground.

For a review, the money might not come immediately. Seeing as you’ll have to grow your social media presence first. The right number of people will cement your place as an authority in the movie industry. You won’t even have to be a movie executive or actor, if you’re a popular movie critic, you’ll still get VIP treatment.

Studios will pay you to drop reviews on their works, you’ll be paid to attend movie premieres (depending on your status, or you’ll simply be invited without pay), and you’ll be paid to promote movies on your platforms. Hell, you can even sign an ambassadorial deal or two just because of the sheer number of followers you have.

So you see if played right, this can become a cash cow for me. Imagine being paid to go to the cinema to see a movie, isn’t it mind-boggling? Exactly!

But then getting there would not be easy. Movie reviews are not something that attracts followers that much, and you’ll have to be different in your approach if you’ll want to have at least one million followers. Still, even with a hundred thousand followers, I’m certain you can make it work to an extent and continue the growth from there.

Once people see you as a force to be reckoned with, you’ll become a voice of truth for them. Before they go to the cinema, they’ll ask for your thoughts to know if paying to see that movie will be a waste of money. That is the kind of influence studios will pay for when they ask you to review for them, with a few words from you about ten thousand people will flock to the cinemas to see their movies. That’s just how great it is.

Sadly though, I started it a few years ago and even though I enjoyed it, had to quit due to a school-related event. I’ll resume soon though, because this is something that’s always on my mind. There’s no pressure, I’ll take things slowly so I’ll enjoy every step of the process. While the money is important, it’s not the reason I’ll be doing it. Movie reviews are simply something I enjoy doing and a favorite pastime of mine. The fact that I can earn from it… well, that’s just a really big bonus!
