The Theater Experience and The Difference It Makes in Movies [ENG/ESP]

You want to know what is a fun way to watch fun movies? In the big screens of the theater, of course!
...What do you mean that is normal? I know for sure that since 2020, many have got used to simply watching it through streaming services, and before that there still was good old cable TV!
It might sound redundant at first to say that the best way to experience movies (most of the time) is to watch them where they are designed to be screened at, but there's quite a few things that can easily be missed out on if you happen to watch them anywhere else instead. And some might have forgot abuot that with how convenient it can be to watch it through streaming or TV with no additional price outside of the montly fee.
Big screen, big audio, a bunch of friends and big feels that can't be replicated
With how technology has developed to equip theaters with the large projectors and subwoofers to display the specially recorded movie to use those at their fullest potential (at least in good movies), there's quite the difference between sitting on your PC or bed to watch a movie, though it could be in crispy quality since the display is digital and you're closer to it, and sitting on what feels like a bus or airplane seat and look at the large projector making the movie feel bigger alongside the sound quality.
And the thing with that is that it could be that one thing that can make something quite memorable to watch the first time...or be the saving grace that makes mediocre movies at least be a tiny bit more entertaining than they would be otherwise.
While I hadn't thought much about Ant-Man Quantumania and Shazam 2 when I watched those, I do have to admit that they are not something I would watch if I hadn't gone with friends, which is also another reason to watch movies in theaters (getting out somewhere, having all share the same first impression in the best way possible and discuss while going back home) as rewatching beyond the first impressions on the theater will definitely be far, far worse if I wanted to simply sit and watch it on my own.
That in itself leads to another point I want to talk about, but I would also like to point out first that movies like Spider-Man No Way Home and the Super Mario Bros. Movie lived on both the first impressions and big theater extra: No Way Home in particular can still be a fun movie to watch but not going to live up to the first time hype with everybody on the big screen (that's another topic right there) when watched at home
On the other hand, the Super Mario Bros Movie felt way more grandiose with the orchestra music and such thanks to the speakers (and my nostalgia with the games)...but the simple plot might be more evident when that extra touch of magic is not present there; specially if you don't care or don't know about the references in first place.
Alright so the next thing was...mmm...oh yeah, commitment to watching the movie.
Paying to stay the whole ride, no matter what it is
For some people, including me, it might be infrequent to watch movies on their own because of getting distracted or interested in absolutely anything else to do, which can also be influenced by the movies available, but at least at home there's quite many things that could change your course from doing that (unless you do that frequently as a routine of watching and reviewing movies you haven't seen, a simple hobby, or just often watch TV channels with movies being aired).
But if you go to the theater, it has to be for something that should be worth the price of admission. As of writing this (and for quite a while), the entrance tickets are 3$ (1.5$ in Monday) so it can be often that it is good to go to watch something at Mondays, but if there's a movie that you really need to watch in any other day (hype, fearing getting spoiled, or because one or more of your friends are at work at Mondays), then once again it should be something worth watching.
Regardless of whatever the quality of the movie is, you are left with nothing more but to watch the movie (unless you are clearly an unruly citizen and do something with the phone while other are trying to watch without your phone's full bright screen bothering them) and take in the most you can in the first go. The exception is if you somehow are able to stay asleep in a theater chair out of boredom or tiredness while watching a movie that doesn't do anything for you...or if it is something so bad or absolutely not what you wanted to watch that you straight up leave.
Here's a story: Imagine that one day while you are a kid, the only A-rated movie available to atch with your family (since you wouldn't be able to enter for B-rated movies) was this one. From far away, the suited men in the poster and the "Out of Air" name sounded to us like something that could be an action movie involving planes or something.
IT WAS A FREAKING DOCUMENTARY ABOUT A TV CHANNEL THAT WAS TAKEN "OUT OF AIR".
This was maaaany years ago, but to this day that was the only time my entire core family had went to watch a movie at once, and it was this movie that had us leaving less than 5 minutes in when realizing what we got into.
The point is that since you pay and stay in a mostly closed enviroment to watch a movie, you'll either stay and watch the whole thing because you paid for the entrance, because the movie is actually good and has your sole attention...or you get up and leave because of something that unenjoyable. And that is quite different from being able to tap away or change to anything different while watching movies at home.
Also taking the chance to mention that yesterday I went with other friends to watch Across the Spiderverse (I had watched it already) and since we made it minutes late to the second show, we waited 3 hours in the mall talking just to watch the movie from the beginning (as me and another friend who had already watched the movie had missed out almost the entire prologue with Gwen).* After all was said and done, they said it was quite worth it to wait just to watch a movie that good.
Living the movie with the rest, for the best or for the worst
Watching movies with your friends on the theater is a great excuse not just to hang out with them, but to enjoy discussion before and after the movie, and specially to live all together the hype moments that a movie can drop out of them and the rest of the whole theater if it is that good. Laughs for funny moments, sad emotion whimpers for sad moments, you know the drill.
There's TWO that I could mention today that were quite something, but since they all involve spoilers, I'm marking them as such for those that already have watched the movie.
! [John Wick 4 Spoiler] When the smug antagonist of the whole movie got capped in the face by John Wick, EVERYBODY started cheering and clapping, and that is something that I wouldn't been have to live at home or on a second rewatch.
! [Across the Spiderverse Spoiler] My friend sitting next to me started screaming "NOOO NOOOOO NOOOOOO" just like Tano Pasman, and many others were also losing it when after the whole buildup with Gwen going out to rescue Miles, facing his evil version in the wrong universe, gets cut off with a "To Be Continued." And someone even yelled after that "THEY LIED TO YOU MORE THAN HER", which had me lose it with laughter. And then I ended up baffled when another one told me that the movie did NOT have post-credits, so it is all to wait for the next time.
While I can't recall much of the reactions in Guardians of the Galaxy vol. 3, I can remember an elderly woman staying in the theater waiting for a second post-credits scene when everyone else had left the place, which was quite interesting to talk about with my brother and my friend that were there with me also waiting for it.
But of course, it can also go wrong if there's people being obnoxiously loud, many people using their phones at full bright, and people taking their babies at the movie, that hampers your experience watching a movie for the first time. While this one isn't my story, another friend was telling me while returning from watching Across the Spider-Verse yesterday (as I had went with him, despite me having already seen the movie past week once) about how there were kids in **The Conjuring 3 as apparently they could enter a B-rated movie with their parents, and I think that you should know what happens when you mix kids with scary movies.
Is it always the best way, though?
It sure can be if you at least are aware that the movie will be good, and while it might still be if it meets non-existent expectations for a movie you weren't looking forward that much to, there are definitely movies that might be best to skip and wait in digital, since you could spend that ticket money in watching a better movie...or spend it in anything else.
There's also cases where either the theaters themselves might not be in great conditions, or have little slots for airing movies, as I still remember being unable to watch No Way Home on the release day because of spending hours doing a line overnight until we were told that only a handful of that line would be able to buy for that day (for some reason, they only had ONE room for the movie, and the rest was for Clifford and a Resident Evil movie).
...Or maybe there simply aren't theaters available anywhere nearby to where you live, which means that you'll have to stick to digital.
And...that's all?
Yes, that's all. Watching movies can be a fun activity with friends, and is likely the only way most will do so since it could be a bit depressing to go there alone, but it doesn't take away that the main bulk of that experience also being determined by the quality and nature of the movie, so always make sure to know what to watch and with who to go to the theaters!

Y algunos se habrán olvidado de lo cómodo que puede resultar verlas en streaming o por televisión sin ningún coste adicional aparte de la cuota mensual.
Gran pantalla, gran audio, un puñado de amigos y grandes sentimientos que no se pueden replicar
Con la tecnología que se ha desarrollado para equipar a los cines con grandes proyectores y subwoofers para mostrar la película grabada especialmente para utilizarlos en su máximo potencial (al menos en las buenas películas), hay una gran diferencia entre sentarse en el PC o en la cama para ver una película, aunque podría ser en calidad nítida ya que la pantalla es digital y estás más cerca de ella, y sentarse en lo que parece un asiento de autobús o avión y mirar el gran proyector haciendo que la película se sienta más grande junto con la calidad del sonido.
Y lo que pasa es que puede ser ese detalle que haga que algo sea memorable la primera vez que se ve... o que sea la gracia salvadora que haga que las películas mediocres sean al menos un poco más entretenidas de lo que serían de otro modo.
Aunque no había pensado mucho en Ant-Man Quantumania y Shazam 2 cuando las vi, tengo que admitir que no son algo que vería si no hubiera ido con amigos, lo que también es otra razón para ver películas en el cine (salir a algún sitio, tener a todos compartiendo la misma primera impresión de la mejor manera posible y discutir mientras volvemos a casa) ya que volver a verlas más allá de las primeras impresiones en el cine sería definitivamente mucho, mucho peor si quisiera simplemente sentarme y verla por mi cuenta.
Eso en sí mismo conduce a otro punto que quiero hablar, pero también me gustaría señalar en primer lugar que las películas como Spider-Man No Way Home y el Super Mario Bros. película vivió tanto en las primeras impresiones y el gran teatro extra: No Way Home, en particular, todavía puede ser una película divertida de ver, pero no va a la altura de la primera vez bombo con todo el mundo en la pantalla grande (que es otro tema allí mismo) cuando se ve en casa

Pagar para quedarse todo el viaje, no importa lo que sea
Para algunas personas, incluyéndome, puede ser poco frecuente ver películas por su cuenta por distraerse o interesarse en absolutamente cualquier otra cosa que hacer, lo que también puede estar influenciado por las películas disponibles, pero al menos en casa hay bastantes cosas que podrían cambiar tu rumbo de hacer eso (a menos que lo hagas frecuentemente como una rutina de ver y revisar películas que no has visto, un simple pasatiempo, o simplemente veas a menudo canales de TV con películas en emisión).
Pero si vas al cine, tiene que ser por algo que debería valer el precio de la entrada. En el momento de escribir esto (y desde hace bastante tiempo), las entradas cuestan 3$ (1,5$ en lunes), así que a menudo puede ser bueno ir a ver algo en lunes, pero si hay una película que realmente necesitas ver en cualquier otro día (hype, por miedo a que te la estropeen, o porque uno o más de tus amigos están en el trabajo en lunes), entonces una vez más debería ser algo que merezca la pena ver.

Te cuento una historia: Imagina que un día, cuando eras niño, la única película de categoría A que podías ver con tu familia (ya que no podías entrar a ver películas de categoría B) era ésta. Desde lejos, los hombres trajeados del cartel y el nombre "Fuera del Aire" nos sonaban a algo que podría ser una película de acción con aviones o algo así.
***ERA UN DOCUMENTAL SOBRE UN CANAL DE TELEVISIÓN QUE FUE SACADO DEL AIRE.
Esto fue hace muchos años, pero hasta el día de hoy esa fue la única vez que toda mi familia fue a ver una película a la vez, y fue esta película la que nos hizo salir a menos de 5 minutos cuando nos dimos cuenta en lo que nos habíamos metido.
La cuestión es que como pagas y te quedas en un entorno casi cerrado para ver una película, o te quedas y la ves entera porque has pagado la entrada, porque la película es realmente buena y tiene toda tu atención... o te levantas y te vas por algo que no disfrutas. Y eso es muy diferente a poder apartarte o cambiar a algo diferente mientras ves películas en casa.
También aprovecho para mencionar que ayer fui con otros amigos a ver Across the Spiderverse (yo ya la había visto) y como llegamos minutos tarde a la segunda función, esperamos 3 horas en el centro comercial hablando sólo para ver la película desde el principio (como yo y otro amigo que ya había visto la película nos habíamos perdido casi todo el prólogo con Gwen).* Después de todo lo dicho y hecho, dijeron que valió la pena esperar sólo para ver una película así de buena.
Vivir la película con el resto, para lo mejor o para lo peor
Ver películas con tus amigos en el cine es una gran excusa no sólo para pasar el rato con ellos, sino para disfrutar de la discusión antes y después de la película, y especialmente para vivir todos juntos los momentos de expectación que una película puede soltarles a ellos y al resto de toda la sala si es tan buena. Risas para los momentos graciosos, gemidos de emoción para los momentos tristes, ya sabéis el rollo.
Hay DOS que podría mencionar hoy que han sido bastante, pero como todos implican spoilers, los marco como tales para los que ya han visto la película.
! [Spoiler de John Wick 4] Cuando el antagonista engreído de toda la película fue golpeado en la cara por John Wick, TODOS empezaron a vitorear y aplaudir, y eso es algo que no tendría que vivir en casa o en un segundo visionado.
! [Across the Spiderverse Spoiler] Mi amigo sentado a mi lado empezó a gritar "NOOO NOOOOO NOOOOOO" igual que Tano Pasman, y muchos otros también lo estaban perdiendo cuando después de todo el buildup con Gwen saliendo a rescatar a Miles, enfrentándose a su versión malvada en el universo equivocado, se corta con un "To Be Continued". Y alguien incluso gritó después de eso "TE MINTIERON MÁS QUE A ELLA", lo que me hizo perder la risa. Ver películas puede ser una actividad divertida con los amigos, y probablemente sea la única forma en que la mayoría lo haga, ya que podría ser un poco deprimente ir solo, pero eso no quita que la mayor parte de esa experiencia también venga determinada por la calidad y la naturaleza de la película, ¡así que asegúrate siempre de saber qué ver y con quién ir al cine!

Wow this was a whole read and here I am still yet to experience the difference of seeing a movie at home and at a theater.
And that is because I've never been to a theater but it's in my plan list 😅 this post of yours makes me want to try it more sooner than later.
That documentary movie seem interesting, would need to check it out (not in the theater though haha).

In the past I used to love movie theaters, but as time went by, it became very stressful due to a lot of factors, the traffic, the lines at the mall, the lines to buy candy, the noises, the cell phones on, now I prefer to enjoy movies at home.
It is understandable that watching them at home does have some level of comfort without the public being noisy if you are unlucky and not having to get there while waiting in first place (as I said it can be quite the journey for some to visit one, let alone those who can't actually do that unless they take a 1-2 hour long trip), and you get to pick whatever you want. But even with how I would also say that watching movies digitally is definitely a great commodity, some movies just hit good when watching on a well-equipped movie theater.
Oh, and I somehow missed this, but there's also the fact that new hyped movies will usually arrive for a few weeks and then you have to wait months if wanting to watch it through a streaming service, so that's another thing. But digital definitely has made sense for almost if not all movies that are already out of theaters. You take what you can get whenever you want.

Este año me propuse ir al cine más seguido, aparte, quiero dejar esa manía de ir solamente a ver blockbusters de superhéroes, hay muchas películas en muchos géneros que merecen de una experiencia de calidad en una sala de cine, aparte, el factor social siempre lo hace más atractivo.
Mis amigos andan diciendo para ver si ven Barbie cuando salga jaksjdakjsd pero debe de tener pinta de graciosa si los trailers y eso convencen para que estén de acuerdo en eso; es eso o quizás la nueva de Transformers, Oppenheimer, y pues la de Five Nights at Freddy's claro que si cuando salga en Octubre.
Si es gracioso pensar que las que la gente va a ver en cines son de superhéroes, así que entiendo muy bien que quieras buscar películas fuera de ese género (y más con lo estancado que se puso el género con Marvel y DC; Guardianes de la Galaxia Vol. 3 siendo la excepción. Y la segunda de Spider-Verse también, claro).
Hay algunas películas como El Silencio de los Inocentes (ay aun me duele que puse ese donde no era aaaaaa), Everything Everywhere All at Once (ya entiendo porque la gente habló tanto de esa película en su tiempo) y una llamada Planeta Terror que vi reciente con un amigo (aún cuando no es directamente por Quentin Tarantino, se nota mucho que es por un amigo suyo jaksdjaskdj) que la verdad me pregunto como habría sido verlas en cines con el proyector y audio, pero a la vez si estuvo bien verlas cómodo en casa; especialmente cuando dos de esas tres que mencioné no podría haberlos visto cuando salieron de todos modos (yo no existía cuando salió la de Silencio de los Inocentes, y la de Planeta Terror en 2007 no podría haber entrado a verla...si es que la habrán pasado aquí en primer lugar).

Nada mejor que ir al cine a ver la película, no como @zhoten que es un quejón y dice que prefiere verla en su teléfono solo en su cuarto.
Claro todo depende porque hay películas que es mejor verlas en el cine por la euforia el momento la emoción como por ejemplo Avengers endgame fue una película que obligatoriamente había que ver en el cine no se podía disfrutar de la misma manera en casa o en televisión 😂👍😎
