A different taste of "SWEET AND SOUR" , a Korean movie review

The movie Sweet and Sour was trending in the country back in 2021 after its trailer had been released. Movie lovers who are kdrama fans were anticipating the release of the movie on netflix, even creating a countdown during the time it was released. One of the reason this movie was talked about was because the male lead, Jang Ki Yong gained popularity in the country after he starred to his recent kdramas with more prominent actresses Lee Hye-ri and Song Hye Kyo. And with his great acting skills and outstanding, looks, it wasn't long that he captured the hearts of many kdrama fans in the country and made it to the top of the list of what we considered oppas. As a Kdrama lover, of course I keep up with the latest trends and popular kdrama shows and I was one of those who watched the movie as soon as it was released.

Sweet and Sour is a romantic comedy movie about a couple faced with real-world opportunities and challenges who endure the highs and lows of trying to make a long-distance relationship survive. _IMDb

Jung Da Eun is a nurse at a local hospital in Incheon and his partner, Jang Hyeok is an engineer who accepted the opportunity to work in a branch in Seoul to grab a great opportunity for his career. Hardships started to surface as they try to maintain their relationship despite the distance. Difficulty to make their schedules meet,travel distance sucking out their energy to make time for each other and with a little extra on the side, as Han Bo Yeong, Jang Hyeok's co-worker insert herself in the picture, their relationship was bound to fail.

Will their love conquer these hardships and be able to continue with their relationship or will ot end in a bad taste? The answer to this question is yours to discover if you decide to watch the movie. 😄

These are certain points that I love about the movie.

1. You are up to a big surprise! The scence were so cleverly stitched together to make it seem so chronologically placed but as you come to its ending you will realize, that wasn't the case. That there were scenes that was a throwback scene perfectly stitched into the present that you wouldn't have the slightest clue (or maybe I was just dumb, lol!). The director made you think that all scenes happened in chronological order and when you realize, you have been tricked. I could say, the plot twist will leave you in a hanging, confused state, and makes you question y̶o̶u̶r̶ e̶x̶i̶s̶t̶e̶n̶c̶e̶ l̶o̶l̶!, what just happened?.

2. The storyline is a reflection of the real struggles of long distance relationship and the dilemma of prioritizing between love and career. These are real struggles everyone can relate especially when we are in a state of unstability in our career and love life. Oftentimes, we want it all and would give it all just to have it all but time and circumstances wouldn't permit us to have both. A couple have to be physically, mentally and emotionally strong to get through this trying times of their relationship.

3. Cliche? Or not really? Watching the trailer, you'll probably skip to watch thinking the theme of the drama is a cliche circling on the topic of infedility and you'll probably guess what happens to the story but the storyline and its one mighty plot twist and the ending will make you reconsider. These elements were creatively and cleverly put together to produce a surprisingly entertaining drama.

If you are into romantic comedy genre, this movie is something to watch out for. But this will not satisfy your romantic fantasies as this drama paints a realistic romance story. Expect to witness great acting, relatable scenes, and unexpected twist that will leave you high in emotions at the end. There is just enough going on with this movie to make an enjoyable watch that will make you day sweet and sour.
