Review: Ángeles y Demonios

Aunque sea difícil de creer hoy he visto una película que fue estrenada en el 2009. Como lo han leído en el titulo de esta publicación hablo de la película "Ángeles y demonios". Protagonizada por Tom Hanks, en la cual vuelve a interpretar el papel del especialista en simbología el profesor universitario Robert Langdon.

Aunque no conozco mucho sobre la literatura de Dan Brown, esta película parece ser la adaptación al cine del libro que lleva el mismo nombre y que pertenece a la saga del "Código Da Vinci". Ahora bien, sabiendo esto hoy propongo un review un poco diferente, normalmente cuando escribo mis reseñas u opiniones sobre peliculas intento apegarme a un esquema: Introducción, sinopsis, opinión, clasificación, una mirada filosofía y las palabras finales.

Hoy en cambio, me abstendré de la mirada filosófica, sino, que hablaré de una mirada un poco diferente, ya que el tema de la película me hizo recordar mi caminar dentro de la institución de la iglesia católica puesto que por más de 4 años fui estudiante religioso con miras al sacerdocio, pero, ya sin más preámbulos vamos al tema que nos convoca.

Sinopsis:

Tras el secuestro de 4 cardenales de la iglesia católica en pleno conclave, un antiguo enemigo de la iglesia, los Iluminati amenazan con destruir la iglesia, por ello, el profesor de simbología Robert Langdon es convocado por la guardia suiza para apoyar en la resolución del caso e intentar rescatar a los cardenales secuestrados.

¿Qué pienso de la película?

De manera objetiva creo que es una película entretenida, que cumple con el objetivo, entretener durante dos horas. Si como a mí te gustó la película "El código Da Vinci" esta también te va a gustar, de hecho, creo que "Ángeles y demonios" es un poco menos rebuscada y eso hace a mi parecer que sea un film más entretenido. Si algo me gusta de este tipo de películas es la conexión con elementos históricos.

La película juega con la idea del conflicto entre la fe y la razón, la religión y la ciencia, dinámica que se hace más entretenida al mezclar tal dicotomía con elementos de historia del arte, historia de la iglesia y que precisamente el ambiente en el cual se ha desarrollado la historia es ideal para crear un clima aun más interesante y lleno de elementos que dotan de cierto de misterio, ya que se ha ambientado la película en la ciudad eterna.

¿Por qué digo que me hizo recordar una etapa de mi vida?

Quienes me conocen saben que fuí estudiante religioso dentro de la iglesia católica, por lo que por mucho tiempo hizo que me interesaran cosas como la historia de la iglesia, más todos los elementos que por tradición se mantienen, como por ejemplo, el método por el cual escogen al nuevo PAPA, como son los procesos dentro de la institución religiosa en momentos como el conclave.

Como desconozco la novela, no podría decir que tan bien o no ha sido adaptada la historia a la gran pantalla, pero, lo que sí puedo afirmar es que los guionistas han sabido introducir elemento reales dentro de la ficción de la historia, hay datos históricos totalmente ciertos, aunque como toda historia de ficción puede rozar cosas realmente absurdas.

Si no has visto la película te podrías estar preguntando ¿Por qué lleva por nombre Ángeles y demonios? No es que se trate de una lucha de criaturas metafísicas, sino de la idea de contrastar el crimen y la bondad, el pecado y la acción justa, como sin importar el entorno puede haber bondad o maldad.

Aunque hay cosas que pudiésemos pensar son predecibles, la dinámica de la historia te hace dudar de varias cosas realmente importantes en la historia o eso es lo que me hace sentir. Aunque es altamente probable que tú estimado lector ya hayas visto esta película, o quizá hayas leído el libro, así que te pregunto: ¿Qué te ha parecido la historia?

Review: Angels and Demons

Although it is hard to believe today I have seen a movie that was released in 2009. As you have read in the title of this publication I am talking about the movie "Angels and Demons". Starring Tom Hanks, in which he reprises the role of symbology specialist and university professor Robert Langdon.

Although I do not know much about Dan Brown's literature, this film seems to be the film adaptation of the book of the same name, which belongs to the saga of the "Da Vinci Code". Now, knowing this, today I propose a slightly different review, normally when I write my reviews or opinions about movies I try to stick to an outline: Introduction, synopsis, opinion, rating, a philosophical look and the final words.

Today instead, I will refrain from the philosophical look, but rather, I will talk about a slightly different look, since the theme of the film made me remember my walk within the institution of the Catholic Church since for more than 4 years I was a religious student with a view to the priesthood, but, without further ado let's go to the subject that summons us.

Synopsis:

After the kidnapping of 4 cardinals of the Catholic Church in full conclave, an old enemy of the church, the Illuminati threaten to destroy the church, therefore, the professor of symbology Robert Langdon is summoned by the Swiss guard to support in the resolution of the case and try to rescue the kidnapped cardinals.

What do I think of the film?

Objectively I think it is an entertaining movie, that fulfills the objective, to entertain for two hours. If like me you liked the movie "The Da Vinci Code" you will also like this one, in fact, I think that "Angels and Demons" is a little less far-fetched and that makes it, in my opinion, a more entertaining film. If there's one thing I like about this type of film, it's the connection to historical elements.

The film plays with the idea of the conflict between faith and reason, religion and science, a dynamic that is made more entertaining by mixing such dichotomy with elements of art history, church history and that precisely the environment in which the story has been developed is ideal to create an even more interesting and full of elements that provide some mystery, since the film has been set in the eternal city.

Why do I say that it made me remember a stage of my life?

Those who know me know that I was a religious student in the Catholic Church, so for a long time it made me interested in things like the history of the church, plus all the elements that are maintained by tradition, for example, the method by which they choose the new POPE, as are the processes within the religious institution at times like the conclave.

As I do not know the novel, I could not say how well or not the story has been adapted to the big screen, but what I can say is that the screenwriters have managed to introduce real elements within the fiction of the story, there are historical data completely true, although like any fictional story can touch really absurd things.

If you haven't seen the movie you might be wondering why it is called Angels and Demons? It's not that it's about a metaphysical creature struggle, but the idea of contrasting crime and goodness, sin and righteous action, how no matter the environment there can be good or evil.

Although there are things that we might think are predictable, the dynamics of the story make you doubt several really important things in the story or that's what it makes me feel. Although it is highly probable that you dear reader have already seen this movie, or maybe you have read the book, so I ask you: What did you think of the story?
