Movie review: Divergente | Una sociedad dividida | By: @gaemyrak [ESP/ENG]
Hello, Movies & TV Shows friends! I have the peculiarity of watching movies and series many, many years after they are released, so you probably have a huge question mark on your face when you see the title of this post, but what can I do? I guess joining the wave of some movies a little late is a trait of mine that won't go away anytime soon. You guys just make yourselves comfortable, reach for the popcorn and enjoy this review.

Divergente es una película estadounidense de género distópico y ciencia ficción, basada en el primer libro de la saga que lleva el mismo nombre: “Divergente”, de la escritora neoyorkina Veronica Roth. Fue estrenada en Estados Unidos el 21 de marzo de 2014 y el 4 de abril de 2014 en Iberoamérica, siendo dirigida por Neil Burger y protagonizada por Shailene Woodle y Theo James. A pesar de la crítica fue una película taquillera, logrando recaudar la suma de $288,747,985.
Divergent is an American dystopian science fiction film, based on the first book of the saga of the same name: "Divergent", by New York author Veronica Roth. It was released in the United States on March 21, 2014 and on April 4, 2014 in Ibero-America, being directed by Neil Burger and starring Shailene Woodle and Theo James. Despite the criticism it received, it was a box office success, grossing US$288,747,985.

Divergente nos hace viajar a un mundo distópico, a una ciudad de Chicago posguerra rodeada de una valla para proteger a la sociedad que ahora ha sido dividida en cincos distintos grupos o “facciones” como una manera de garantizar la paz: Erudición (los inteligentes, quienes los saben todo), Cordialidad (los pacíficos, que promueven la paz y la armonía), Verdad (los honestos que valoran el orden), Osadía (los valientes, soldados y protectores de la ciudad) y Abnegación (Los altruistas, manejan el gobierno, llevan vidas simples y ayudan a los demás). Todo esto lo conocemos a través del punto de vista de nuestra protagonista Beatrice Prior, una joven nacida en Abnegación.
Divergent takes us on a journey to a dystopian world, to a post-war Chicago city surrounded by a fence to protect the society that has now been divided into five distinct groups or "factions" as a way to ensure peace: Erudition (the intelligent, who know it all), Cordiality (the peaceful, who promote peace and harmony), Truth (the honest who value order), Boldness (the brave, soldiers and protectors of the city) and Abnegation (The altruistic, run the government, lead simple lives and help others). All this we know through the point of view of our protagonist Beatrice Prior, a young woman born in Abnegation.
Cuando los jóvenes de todas las facciones cumplen cierta edad (16 según el libro) deben presentar una prueba de actitud basada en su personalidad la cual les dirá en que facción encajan más, dejándose claro también que son libres de elegir a cuál quieren unirse para siempre en la ceremonia de elección. Cuando Beatrice presenta esta prueba sus resultados son inusuales, inconclusos, revelandose que podria pertenecer a Abnegación, Erudición u Osadía, sin embargo, esto no es algo tan bueno como puede sonar, ya que significa que es Divergente. Los Divergentes son considerados una amenaza para el funcionamiento del sistema de facciones, ya que ellos no pueden ser controlados y piensan de forma independiente.
When young people of all factions reach a certain age (16 according to the book) they must submit an attitude test based on their personality that will tell them which faction they fit into most, making it clear that they are free to choose which one they want to join forever at the election ceremony. When Beatrice submits this test her results are unusual, inconclusive, revealing that she could belong to Abnegation, Erudition or Daring, however, this is not as good as it may sound, as it means she is a Divergent. Divergents are considered a threat to the functioning of the faction system, as they cannot be controlled and think independently.

Beatrice ahora debe decidir por su cuenta a que facción unirse, procurando no decirle a nadie sobre sus resultados. Ella decide unirse a Osadía, poniendo por completo a prueba su valentía y su habilidad para ocultar su condición de Divergente, ya que al parecer en esta facción podrian descubrirla más rápido. Allí conoce a Cuatro (Theo James) un instructor que la ayuda en sus entrenamientos y junto a él deberá hacer hasta lo imposible por salvar su vida cuando descubre que Erudición quiere derrocar a Abnegación, la facción gobernante, y también eliminar a todos los que son como ella y amenazan el sistema.
Beatrice must now decide on her own which faction to join, taking care not to tell anyone about her results. She decides to join Osadia, putting her bravery and her ability to hide her Divergent condition to the test, since it seems that in this faction she could be discovered faster. There she meets Four (Theo James) an instructor who helps her in her training and together with him she must do the impossible to save her life when she discovers that Erudition wants to overthrow Abnegation, the ruling faction, and also eliminate all those who are like her and threaten the system.
Mi opinión de la película | My opinion of the film
Bueno, considero que Divergente es una buena película para pasar el rato. No tiene una trama super compleja ni giros impresionantes, pero tiene lo necesario para ser entretenida y enganchar a quien la vea.
Si les soy sincera, no logré conectar totalmente con ningún personaje, pero eso es algo que puedo obviar, aunque algo que definitivamente no puedo obviar es lo siguiente: ¿Cómo es que el sistema de facciones garantiza la paz? No me quedó del todo claro estoy pues a mi parecer es algo un poco absurdo. Las escenas de grandes alturas me causaron algo de terror (les tengo pánico), pero fueron entretenidas de ver al igual que las de acción, que aunque no son algo de otro mundo considero que fueron bastante decentes.
Well, I consider Divergent a good movie to pass the time. It doesn't have a super complex plot or impressive twists, but it has what it takes to be entertaining and hook the viewer.
To be honest, I didn't really connect with any of the characters, but that's something I can get around, but one thing I definitely can't get around is this: How does the faction system guarantee peace? It wasn't entirely clear to me as it's a bit absurd in my opinion. The high altitude scenes caused me some terror (I'm terrified of them), but they were entertaining to watch, as well as the action scenes, which although they are not something out of this world, I think they were pretty decent.
Por otro lado, debo decir que me gustó mucho el mensaje de fortaleza, valentía y seguridad que transmite la película. Inspira y motiva a enfrentar y vencer nuestros miedos, a despertar nuestro sentido de lucha, a construir nuestro propio camino y futuro siguiendo nuestro instinto, escuchando nuestra voz interior sin permitir que alguien nos quiera callar, controlar y erradicar esas diferencias que nos hacen únicos. Sin duda, en un mundo plagado de reglas (a veces absurdas) y de personas que buscan controlarlo todo, me gustaría ser esa Tris que es diferente, que no necesita encajar en algún lugar y hace valer su propia voz y sus propios pensamientos. Me gustaría ser Divergente.
On the other hand, I must say that I really liked the message of strength, courage and security that the film transmits. It inspires and motivates us to face and overcome our fears, to awaken our sense of struggle, to build our own path and future following our instinct, listening to our inner voice without allowing anyone to silence us, to control and eradicate those differences that make us unique. Without a doubt, in a world plagued by rules (sometimes absurd) and people who seek to control everything, I would like to be that Tris who is different, who does not need to fit in somewhere and asserts her own voice and her own thoughts. I would like to be Divergent.
Si me pidieran puntuar esta película le daría un 8/10🌟, porque sigo creyendo que le falto algo y el final no me hizo ansiar una segunda entrega, pero en términos generales es buena (para mí). Díganme ¿ustedes ya vieron esta película? Si es asi cuéntenme en los comentarios qué tal les pareció.
If I were asked to rate this movie I would give it an 8/10🌟, because I still think it was missing something and the ending didn't make me crave for a second installment, but overall it's good (for me). Tell me, have you already seen this movie? If so, tell me in the comments what you thought of it.
