Hello everyone, friends fans of good stories, I hope you are great, today I want to share with you a new review, of a movie called “Long Shot”, although maybe in some places you will find it as “Almost Impossible” or “Not even in dreams”... but let's see, being honest, the original title in English, “Long Shot” is perfect for it. Well, I went in thinking I was going to see the typical romantic comedy, you know, the ones where you know the whole plot from the trailer, and yes, in a way it is, I mean, it does have some typical romantic comedy stuff, like the 'will they get together or not? ', the romantic details, the cool but weird friend... all those clichés we already know, but, seriously, it's as if they took all those clichés we already know and put a totally new and unexpected touch on them. In fact, it ended up being much more entertaining and, dare I say, even... innovative? Yes, as you hear it! Innovative in a romantic comedy?! Crazy!

The vibe goes like this: Seth Rogen plays Fred, a journalist with super integrity and a bit of a rebellious streak, not your typical romantic comedy heartthrob... then we have Charlize Theron as Charlotte Field, who is basically a mega star... Secretary of State level, who wants to be President of the United States. They've known each other before - she was his nanny a thousand years ago - and they meet again when she hires him to write her speeches for her... super classic approach, right? Odd couple, blast wave, you know the drill....

Hola a todos, amigos fanáticos de las buenas historias, espero que estén genial, el día de hoy les quiero compartir una nueva reseña, de una película que se llama "Long Shot", aunque tal vez y en algunos lados la encuentren como "Casi Imposible" o "Ni en sueños"... pero a ver, siendo sinceros, el título original en inglés, "Long Shot" le queda perfecto. Bueno, yo entré pensando que iba a ver la típica comedia romántica, ya saben, esas que te sabes toda la trama desde el tráiler, y sí, a ver, en cierto modo sí lo es, o sea, sí tiene cositas típicas de comedia romántica, como el rollo de '¿quedarán juntos o no?', los detallazos románticos, el amigo buena onda pero medio raro.. todos esos clichés que ya conocemos, pero, en serio, es como si agarraran todos esos clichés que ya nos sabemos y les pusieran un toque totalmente nuevo e inesperado. De hecho, terminó siendo mucho más entretenida y, me atrevo a decir, ¿hasta... innovadora? ¡Sí, como lo oyen! ¡¿Innovadora en una comedia romántica?! ¡Locura!

La onda va así: Seth Rogen hace de Fred, un periodista súper íntegro y un poco rebelde, nada que ver con el típico galán de comedia romántica.. luego tenemos a Charlize Theron como Charlotte Field, que es básicamente una mega estrella.. nivel Secretaria de Estado, que quiere ser Presidenta de Estados Unidos. Ellos ya se conocían de antes – ella fue su niñera hace mil años – y se reencuentran cuando ella lo contrata para que le escriba sus discursos.. un planteamiento súper clásico, ¿verdad? Pareja dispareja, onda explosiva, ya saben cómo va la cosa..

What really made this movie work, and even saved it from being just another run-of-the-mill romantic comedy, was the BRUTAL chemistry between Seth Rogen and Charlize Theron, let's see, looking at them like this, they look like the weirdest couple in the universe, visually, they're like oil and water. He's... well, Seth Rogen being Seth Rogen, and she's... different, I mean, Greek goddess level beauty. But I don't know how they did it, but it works! the dialogues they have are great, the way they complement each other is super funny and, at the same time, even tender I would say... you really believe that these two opposite characters can fall in love. It's all in the way they interact, in those little moments and jokes they have with each other... they just connect, you know what I mean? It's almost like magic watching them together... speaking of Charlotte for a second... seriously, she's one of the best female characters I've seen in a romantic comedy in years, they didn't make her the typical cardboard successful woman, she's smart, ambitious, determined - she wants to be president! - but she's also super self-aware, she knows her worth and her weaknesses.

And what's cooler is that even though she's this super top and powerful woman, they also show her being totally human, she has her own problems... she's not the perfect ice queen, she gets tired, she makes mistakes, she even has... physiological needs. They let her be a real person, with all the good and bad, it's refreshing, usually, in these movies, the female lead is either perfect to the point of boredom or her “flaws” are all like to make you identify with her, but in a superficial way. but Charlotte? She's really complex and amazing, I was fully rooting for her, not only in her campaign, but in life in general, after watching her, you almost understand why Fred falls in love with her like that... it makes you want to find your own Charlotte! But, you know, chance and a little bit less presidential, for her own mental health, hahaha.

Lo que de verdad hizo que esta película funcionará, y hasta la salvó de ser una comedia romántica más del montón, fue la química BRUTAL entre Seth Rogen y Charlize Theron, a ver, viéndolos así, parecen la pareja más rara del universo, visualmente, son como agua y aceite. Él es... bueno, Seth Rogen siendo Seth Rogen, y ella es.. diferente, o sea, belleza nivel diosa griega. Pero no sé cómo le hicieron, ¡pero funciona! los diálogos que tienen son geniales, la forma en que se complementan es súper chistosa y, a la vez, hasta tierna te diría.. de verdad te crees que estos dos personajes tan opuestos se puedan enamorar. Está todo en cómo interactúan, en esos momentitos y chistes que se mandan.. simplemente conectan, ¿me entienden? Es casi como magia verlos juntos.. hablando de Charlotte un segundo.. en serio, es de los mejores personajes femeninos que he visto en una comedia romántica en años, no la hicieron la típica mujer exitosa de cartón piedra, ella es inteligente, ambiciosa, decidida – ¡quiere ser presidenta! – pero también es súper consciente de sí misma, sabe lo que vale y sus puntos débiles.

Y lo que es más cool es que, aunque es esta mujer súper top y poderosa, también la muestran siendo totalmente humana, tiene sus propios problemas.. no es la reina perfecta de hielo, se cansa, se equivoca, hasta tiene.. necesidades fisiológicas. La dejan ser una persona real, con todo lo bueno y lo malo, es refrescante, normalmente, en estas pelis, la prota femenina es o perfecta hasta aburrir o sus "defectos" son todos como para que te identifiques con ella, pero de forma superficial. ¿Pero Charlotte? Ella es compleja de verdad e increíble, yo la apoyaba a full, no solo en su campaña, sino en la vida en general, después de verla, casi entiendes por qué Fred se enamora así de ella.. te dan ganas de encontrar tu propia Charlotte! Pero, ya sabes, chance y un poquito menos presidencial, por su propia salud mental, jajaja.

Fred, Seth Rogen’s character, is not your typical dumb friend who somehow hooks up with the hot girl. I mean, the guy has his own charm, you know what I mean? At first, he’s kind of cynical, kind of lost, and even a little angry with life, he has this half-baked tattoo, which, in the movie, becomes a super cool visual metaphor for his life. You see him change throughout the movie, along with Charlotte, he starts off being a little rough, and little by little, as he connects with her and starts to believe in himself, he transforms. You really start to care about him. There’s a scene in the movie where he’s almost about to give up his principles for her, and it’s super hard to watch because you’ve seen how much he’s grown, you really feel bad for him, you want him to be happy, and you want him to keep the girl, what’s also great is how the movie mixes typical rom-com stuff with Seth Rogen’s signature humor, it’s not your typical sweet and cheesy rom-com. It’s got punch, it’s got a bit of risqué humor, but it’s never gratuitous, they strike a really good balance, it’s like they took the classic rom-com formula and gave it this modern, slightly irreverent vibe… it feels fresh, it feels new, even though you recognize all the same old elements.

Someone even called it a “fusion” creating a “new style” – and yes, I totally agree! It’s not just repeating the same rom-com clichés; it’s really doing something a little different… and the pop culture references are everywhere, and they’re perfect! “Game of Thrones,” Marvel movies… they put them in so naturally that it’s like listening to a real conversation between friends, it makes the characters feel so close, so… normal. As if they weren’t just movie characters; They're people who watch the same shows and movies as us, who get the same jokes, and it's a really clever way to connect with the audience and make the story feel real, even if the underlying idea is a little crazy... it's like, yeah, maybe I could end up falling in love with a presidential candidate, because we both binge-watched "Game of Thrones," right? Well, maybe not quite like that, but you get the idea!

Fred, el personaje de Seth Rogen, no es el típico amigo tonto que de alguna manera se liga a la chica guapa.. a ver, el tipo tiene su propio encanto, ¿me entienden? al principio, está medio cínico, como perdido, y hasta un poco enojado con la vida, tiene este tatuaje a medias, que, en la peli, se vuelve una metáfora visual súper cool de su vida.. lo ves cambiar durante la película, junto con Charlotte, empieza siendo un poco tosco, y poco a poco, mientras conecta con ella y empieza a creer en sí mismo, se transforma.. de verdad que te empiezas a preocupar por él. Hay una escena en la película donde casi está por dejar de lado sus principios por ella, y es súper duro de ver porque ya viste todo lo que ha crecido, realmente sientes feo por él, quieres que sea feliz, y quieres que se quede con la chica, lo que también está genial es cómo la peli mezcla cosas típicas de comedia romántica con el humor característico de Seth Rogen, no es la típica comedia romántica toda dulce y cursi. Tiene punch, tiene humor un poco subido de tono, pero nunca es de a gratis, encuentran un equilibrio muy bueno, es como si agarraran la fórmula clásica de comedia romántica y le metieran esta onda moderna y un poco irreverente.. se siente fresca, se siente nueva, aunque reconoces todos los elementos de siempre.

Alguien hasta la llamó una "fusión" creando un "estilo novedoso" – y sí, ¡totalmente de acuerdo! No solo está repitiendo los mismos clichés de comedia romántica; de verdad que está haciendo algo un poquito diferente.. y las referencias a la cultura pop, están por todos lados, y son perfectas! "Juego de Tronos", pelis de Marvel... las meten de una forma tan natural que es como escuchar una conversación real entre amigos, hace que los personajes se sientan tan cercanos, tan... normales. Como si no fueran solo personajes de película; son personas que ven las mismas series y pelis que nosotros, que entienden los mismos chistes, es una forma muy inteligente de conectar con el público y hacer que la historia se sienta real, aunque la idea de base sea un poco loca.. es como, sí, tal vez yo podría terminar enamorándome de una candidata presidencial, porque los dos nos aventamos maratones de "Juego de Tronos", ¿verdad? Bueno,tal vez no tan así, ¡pero me entienden la idea!

But it's not all just laughs, the movie also touches on important topics, like female empowerment and internet privacy issues, Charlotte has to deal with all the sexism and absurd criticism just for being a woman and wanting to be president, and there's an entire plot about a compromising video that could ruin her campaign, which feels super current, like straight from the news. It doesn't lecture you or get intense, but it's there, embedded in the story in a way that feels natural and hits you, makes you think a little, but still makes you laugh. Then, it also has a nod to those classic romantic comedies from the 80s and 90s, like "Pretty Woman."

They even use the Roxette song, "It Must Have Been Love," which makes you feel incredibly nostalgic! There are more little details like that everywhere, like memories of those romantic comedies that we all love, it's like they're saying, "We love those movies too, but we're going to make it our way, for today's people." It's a smart way to use that nostalgia that we like, but without ceasing to be fresh and current. Although the movie is more on the humorous side, it also has real romantic moments, which feel very real and current. Like, there's a scene where they're watching "The Avengers," and she already knows the plot because she read the summary, but not the details, it's such a small and weird moment, but also super tender and intimate. It's those little things, those modern touches, that make the romance feel real and close, they're not just big details and huge statements; they're moments that they share, inside jokes and connecting over the things that they both like.

So... I really liked "Long Shot." Is it the best romantic comedy in history? No, but it is very funny, it is surprisingly good and it will entertain you.. it has heart, it has humor and it has Charlize Theron and Seth Rogen who kill it together, if you are looking for a modern romantic comedy that is a little bit smarter, a little bit edgier, but just as romantic and that leaves you with a smile, then this is one you have to see. I give it a 7.5/10, it is really worth seeing, especially if you are looking for something funny and with a different touch.. and well, that's all for today, I'll leave the trailer down here, take care of yourselves, byebye!

Pero no todo es risa y ya, la película también toca temas importantes, como el empoderamiento femenino y los problemas de privacidad en internet, Charlotte tiene que lidiar con todo el sexismo y las críticas absurdas solo por ser mujer y querer ser presidenta, y hay una trama entera sobre un video comprometedor que le puede arruinar la campaña, que se siente súper actual, como sacado de las noticias. No te da sermones ni se pone intensa, pero ahí está, metida en la historia de una forma que se siente natural y que te pega,te hace pensar un poco, pero sin dejar de reírte. Luego, también tiene un guiño a esas comedias románticas clásicas de los 80 y 90, onda "Pretty Woman".

Hasta usan la canción de Roxette, "It Must Have Been Love", que te da una nostalgia tremenda! hay más detallitos así por todos lados, como recuerdos de esas comedias románticas que todos amamos, es como si dijeran, "A nosotros también nos encantan esas pelis, pero vamos a hacerla a nuestra onda, para la gente de ahora".. es una forma inteligente de usar esa nostalgia que nos gusta, pero sin dejar de ser fresca y actual.. aunque la peli va más por el lado del humor, también tiene momentos románticos de verdad, que se sienten muy reales y actuales. Como, hay una escena donde están viendo "Los Vengadores", y ella ya se sabe la trama porque leyó el resumen, pero no los detalles, es un momento así chiquito y raro, pero también súper tierno e íntimo.. son esas cositas, esos toques modernos, los que hacen que el romance se sienta real y cercano, no son solo detallazos y declaraciones enormes; son momentos que comparten, chistes internos y conectar por las cosas que les gustan a los dos.

Entonces.. a mí me gustó mucho "Long Shot". ¿Es la mejor comedia romántica de la historia? No, pero es muy divertida, es sorprendentemente buena y te entretiene.. tiene corazón, tiene humor y tiene a Charlize Theron y Seth Rogen que la rompen juntos, si buscas una comedia romántica moderna que sea un poco más inteligente, un poco más atrevida, pero igual de romántica y que te deje con una sonrisa, entonces de una que tienes que verla. Yo le doy un 7.5/10, de verdad que vale la pena verla, sobre todo si buscas algo divertido y un toque diferente.. y bueno, eso es todo por hoy, les dejaré el tráiler aquí abajo, cuídense mucho, byebye!
