Hace unos días me decidí por ver Carrie, la de Brian De Palma, porque cuándo era un adolescente vi Carrie (2013) y, cómo era adolescente, la recordaba muy buena. Sin embargo, al ver la versión de De Palma me di cuenta del porqué la gente es tan fiel a la Carrie original, con unos cuantos detalles que no me gustaron ya sea por ser una historia muy estadounidense o por las decisiones del director, todo lo demás de Carrie del 76 es una obra de arte, con una dirección de arte y una fotografía increíble. Pero al verla pensé, ¿por qué esta película, que es tan atemporal como buena, tiene remake? Carrie cuenta la historia de una adolescente que sufre de bullying en su escuela y al final, con ayuda de un poder inexplicable, toma venganza. El bullying ha cambiado con los años, pero el remake sigue planteando la misma situación, entonces, ¿por qué un remake? Bueno, a veces el punto no es el porqué, sino el cómo, y en eso, el remake, aunque un poco flojo, termina siendo muy interesante. Debido a eso, ahora quiero hablar de unos remakes que me parecen cuánto menos interesantes:

A few days ago I decided to watch Brian De Palma's Carrie, because when I was a teenager I saw Carrie (2013) and, as a teenager, I remembered it very well. However, watching De Palma's version made me realize why people are so faithful to the original Carrie, with a few details that I didn't like either because it's a very American story or because of the director's choices, everything else about '76 Carrie is a work of art, with amazing art direction and photography. But as I watched it I thought, why is this film, which is as timeless as it is good, getting a remake? Carrie tells the story of a teenage girl who suffers bullying at her school and in the end, with the help of an unexplained power, takes revenge. The bullying has changed over the years, but the remake still poses the same situation, so why a remake? Well, sometimes the point is not the why, but the how, and in that, the remake, although a bit weak, ends up being very interesting. Because of that, now I want to talk about some remakes that I find interesting to say the least:
Funny Games
este ejemplo es para mí, increíblemente interesante porque hay muy pocas películas como esta. Es un Remake hecho por el mismo director que hizo la original, Michael Haneke, y este quiso hacer la película solamente para obtener un público estadounidense. He leído que las personas prefieren la original pero sinceramente a mí me parece un poco arrogante de su parte, ya que es un calco casi plano a plano de la original, pero con mejores actores, haciendo la experiencia un poco más “disfrutable”, si es que ese adjetivo le queda.
Funny Games
this example is, to me, incredibly interesting because there are very few movies like this. It is a remake made by the same director who made the original, Michael Haneke, and he wanted to make the film just to get an American audience. I've read that people prefer the original but honestly to me it seems a bit arrogant on their part, as it's an almost shot-for-shot carbon copy of the original, but with better actors, making the experience a bit more "enjoyable", if that adjective fits.
Dawn of the dead
Un joven Zack Snyder, junto a un también joven James Gunn, quisieron tomar la difícil tarea de hacer un remake de un hito en la historia del cine, Dawn of the Dead de Romero. Romero es conocido por haber creado el género de zombies, básicamente, y hacer un remake de una de sus películas más reconocidas es, en papel, casi imposible. Sin embargo, tanto Snyder como Gunn tenían eso en claro y por lo mismo decidieron hacer otra cosa, una película con un tono completamente diferente a la original, convirtiéndose aun así en una de las mejores películas en la historia del género.
Dawn of the Dead
A young Zack Snyder, along with a young James Gunn, wanted to take on the difficult task of remaking a landmark in film history, Romero's Dawn of the Dead. Romero is known for creating the zombie genre, basically, and remaking one of his most recognizable films is, on paper, nearly impossible. However, both Snyder and Gunn had that in mind and therefore decided to do something else, a film with a completely different tone from the original, still becoming one of the best films in the history of the genre.

las historias de Stephen King, siendo de terror, son una apuesta fácil para hacer un remake. Tan solo aquí ya he mencionado dos (It y Carrie), pero además también está cementerio de animales y el resplandor. Pero con It la cosa es diferente, porque a mi parecer, ninguno de los remakes alcanza lo increíble que son las originales, pero It es la excepción. Tim Curry es un genio y eso es cierto, pero convierte la historia de It es simplemente el payaso malvado, y el libro es mucho más que eso, algo que Muschietti comprendió a la perfección en su película de 2017 y su secuela en 2019.

Stephen King's stories, being horror, are an easy bet for a remake. Here alone I have already mentioned two (It and Carrie), but there is also Animal Cemetery and The Shining. But with It it's a different matter, because in my opinion, none of the remakes reach the awesomeness of the originals, but It is the exception. Tim Curry is a genius and that's true, but it turns the story of It is simply the evil clown, and the book is much more than that, something that Muschietti understood perfectly in his 2017 film and its sequel in 2019.

De todos los que mencionas, los remakes que más me gustaron son los de Carrie (sobre todo porque participa Chloë Grace Moretz como la protagonista) y It por, bueno, es obvio que en muchas cosas, o casi en todo, es superior a la original (ojalá la hubieran dejado así, con solo la primera película, ya que la segunda como que no tiene el mismo impacto).
