Review:

It is a dramatic film directed by Florian Zeller, which presents us with a story full of excellent performances, by its protagonist Anthony, played by Anthony Hopkins, and the main actress in her role as Anne (the daughter), played by Olivia Colman, in it we can see the conflict that arises in Anne's life when she has to take care of her 80-year-old father, She struggles with the memories of her father, who does not recognize her at times, or confuses her with his caregiver, she must constantly answer her father's questions regarding her sister, who passed away years ago, and her father does not remember him, having to relive these moments of sadness repeatedly.

Also Anne must contend with complaints from her father's caregivers, who quit their jobs because of her father's plight, and she must make a decision whether to take her father to live with her?, or take him to a nursing home?.

Opinion:

En mi opinión, Anne es el personaje que más sufre debido a que ella vive en carne propia el deterioro de la memoria de su padre, quien en ocasiones la acusa de querer quedarse con su casa, y la trata mal. Ella se siente incapaz de vivir su vida libremente y tener su pareja, la cual sale en algunas partes de la película siendo interpretado por dos actores diferentes, ya que se busca mostrar a la audiencia la confusión mental que tiene Anthony, y nos muestra a los personajes tal y como él los ve.

Por lo que al principio de la película se puede tornar algo confuso, ya que también los personajes interpretados por la hija Anne, y la cuidadora son mostrados con actrices diferentes. Los tiempos van cambiando también, al inicio de la película se desarrolla en su apartamento, luego aparece en la casa de su hija con su yerno, y finalmente en una casa de retiro donde lo lleva su hija, ya que no se siente capaz de cuidarlo más.

Opinion:

In my opinion, Anne is the character who suffers the most because she experiences first-hand the deterioration of her father's memory, who sometimes accuses her of wanting to take her house, and treats her badly. She feels unable to live her life freely and have her partner, which appears in some parts of the film being played by two different actors, as it seeks to show the audience the mental confusion that Anthony has, and shows us the characters as he sees them. So at the beginning of the film it can get a little confusing, as also the characters played by the daughter Anne, and the caretaker are shown with different actresses.

The times are changing as well, at the beginning of the film it takes place in his apartment, then he appears in his daughter's house with his son-in-law, and finally in a retirement home where his daughter takes him, as she doesn't feel able to take care of him anymore.

Hay una escena de la película cuando ella lleva a su padre al ancianato, que sale llorando por dejar a su padre allí, su conciencia la castiga por esa decisión, pero ella argumenta que tiene derecho a vivir su vida, ya que estos años que ella pasó al cuidado de su padre fueron para ella de mucho agotamiento y frustración viendo que la salud mental de su padre se deterioraba cada día más. Por su parte, Anthony Hopkins en su interpretación logro mostrarnos muy bien lo que se siente estar padeciendo esta terrible enfermedad que es el Alzheimer, y nos lleva a sentirnos tan perdidos como él también.

Y al final de la película, cuando él llora diciendo que quiere salir de allí, que donde están sus seres queridos, su cuidadora lo reconforta diciéndole que su hija lo visita todos los fines de semana, pero tristemente él no se acuerda.

There is a scene in the film when she takes her father to the nursing home, she comes out crying for leaving her father there, her conscience punishes her for that decision, but she argues that she has the right to live her life, as these years she spent caring for her father were for her a lot of exhaustion and frustration seeing that her father's mental health was deteriorating every day. For his part, Anthony Hopkins in his interpretation managed to show us very well what it feels like to be suffering from this terrible disease that is Alzheimer's, and leads us to feel as lost as he is too.

And at the end of the film, when he cries saying that he wants to get out of there, that where are his loved ones, his caregiver comforts him telling him that his daughter visits him every weekend, but sadly he does not remember.

Esta película al verla nos hace llorar, ya que está cargada de mucho sentimiento, es fácil identificarse con los personajes, ya que nos trasmiten exactamente lo que sucede en muchos hogares donde tenemos a nuestros padres o abuelos sufriendo de esta terrible enfermedad que es el Alzheimer, y a veces no sabemos cómo ayudarlos, considero que estas circunstancias debemos demostrarles nuestro afecto, cuidados y amor con la misma paciencia que ellos tuvieron al cuidarnos a nosotros cuando estábamos pequeños. No dejarlos solos y aunque ellos se sientan aislados por su enfermedad, en un momento de lucidez que vean a sus hijos cerca de ellos, eso será un gran aliciente para ellos. This film makes us cry when we watch it, as it is filled with a lot of emotions, It is easy to identify with the characters, since they transmit exactly what happens in many homes where we have our parents or grandparents suffering from this terrible disease that is Alzheimer's, and sometimes we do not know how to help them, I believe that in these circumstances we must show them our affection, care and love with the same patience that they had when they took care of us when we were little. Do not leave them alone and even if they feel isolated because of their illness, in a moment of lucidity they should see their children near them, that will be a great encouragement for them.
