[ESP-ENG] Film Review: More Than Blue (2009)

Hola amigos de la comunidad de Movies & Tv, espero se encuentren bien el día de hoy. Para mí el mundo del cine y las series asiáticas siempre me ha cautivado y me parece que las historias son muy realistas aunque muchas veces veamos algún cliche que nunca está de más, comencé a ver estás historias desde muy joven y recuerdo que uno de los primeros dramas que ví fue Escalera al Cielo quienes conozcan este drama sabrán que es una historia sumamente triste pero que a pesar de lo injusto que pueda parecer la vida de los personajes quienes sufren de una manera que te hace sentir el mismo dolor que muestran en pantalla también te dejan siempre con una reflexión para tu vida. Recordando al drama Escalera al Cielo y a su protagonista Kwon Sang-woo conseguí una película donde el también es el protagonista y es una película de drama y romance llamada More Than Blue (Más que azul) del año 2009 que me dejó igualmente destruida luego de verla. Hello friends of the Movies & Tv community, I hope you are well today. For me the world of Asian movies and series has always captivated me and I find that the stories are very realistic although many times we see some cliche that is never too much, I started watching these stories since I was very young and I remember that one of the first dramas I saw was Stairway to Heaven those who know this drama will know that it is an extremely sad story but despite how unfair it may seem the lives of the characters who suffer in a way that makes you feel the same pain they show on screen also always leave you with a reflection for your life. Remembering the drama Stairway to Heaven and its protagonist Kwon Sang-woo I got a movie where he is also the protagonist and it is a drama and romance movie called More Than Blue from 2009 that left me equally destroyed after watching it. La historia nos cuenta la relación de amistad entre K (Kwon Sang-woo) y Cream (Lee Bo-young) quienes se conocieron desde la escuela y que comparten una historia de vida bastante similar que los acercó y los unió, ambos son huerfanos de padres, K fue abandonado por su madre sib razon alguna lo que le causó un gran dolor mientras que Cream perdio a su familia en un accidente automovilístico. Con heridas profundas ambos se encuentran como si el destino así lo hubiese querido para que crecieran juntos y formarán una amistad muy profunda donde ambos se apoyan y se cuidan de la forma en la que los mejores amigos lo harían. Pero las cosas se complican cuando K se entera de que tiene una enfermedad terminal y su mundo se derrumba, teme ya no estar más pero su mayor temor es que Cream se quede sola en el mundo asi que toma la decisión de no contarle que esta enfermo y buscar la manera de conseguirle un buen hombre con el cual se pueda casar y formar una familia.

The story follows the friendship between K (Kwon Sang-woo) and Cream (Lee Bo-young) who have known each other since school and share a very similar life story that brought them together, both are orphaned parents, K was abandoned by his mother for no reason which caused him great pain while Cream lost her family in a car accident. With deep wounds, the two meet as if fate intended for them to grow up together and form a deep friendship where they both support and care for each other the way best friends would. But things get complicated when K learns that he is terminally ill and his world collapses, he fears he is no longer around but his greatest fear is that Cream will be left alone in the world so he decides not to tell her he is sick and to find a way to find her a good man to marry and raise a family with.

La enfermedad que padece K es un cáncer terminal y podemos ver cómo lucha contra lo que siente por Cream que es más que una amistad y a la vez el tener que despedirse de la vida que le tocó vivir llena de abandonos y mucho sufrimiento, ahora que sabe que ya no va a poder cuidar de Cream solo desea que ella pueda ser feliz sin él y que tenga su propia familia que cuide de ella. La decisión de mentirle no es nada fácil pero se puede comprender que lo último que alguien querría decirle a la persona que más ama es que vas a morir y generarle un dolor más grande del que ya lleva cargando en su corazón. Es bastante común ver en las películas asiáticas o en los dramas que se mencionen este tipo de temas como las enfermedades y siento que lo muestran de una forma muy humana y realista exceptuando algunos que tienen un final feliz pero en este caso no lo tuvo y lloré un poco pero sobre todo me sorprendió el final porque no me esperaba que terminara de esa manera.

K's illness is terminal cancer and we can see how he fights against what he feels for Cream, which is more than a friendship and at the same time having to say goodbye to the life he had to live full of abandonment and much suffering, now that he knows he will no longer be able to take care of Cream he only wishes she can be happy without him and have her own family to take care of her. The decision to lie to her is not an easy one, but you can understand that the last thing anyone would want to tell the person they love the most is that you are going to die and cause them even more pain than they are already carrying in their hearts. It is quite common to see in Asian movies or dramas that this kind of topics like diseases are mentioned and I feel that they show it in a very human and realistic way except for some that have a happy ending but in this case it didn't have one and I cried a little but above all I was surprised by the ending because I didn't expect it to end that way.

Las actuaciones tanto de Kwon Sang-woo y Lee Bo-young fueron impecables y demostraron una química que hizo más realista la relación de amistad y amor entre ellos dos, además de que supieron representar el dolor de la historia de vida de sus personajes llegando al punto de que el título de la película le queda muy acuerdo a la historia. Podemos ver el dolor de tener que dejar ir a la persona que amas por qué prefieres eso a tener que verla sufrir por causa de tu propio dolor, para mí ver este tipo de películas es algo que me gusta aunque suene dramático o masoquista, pero me gusta ver más que todo historias reales donde los personajes se muestren vulnerables y aunque no hubo un final feliz digamos que me quedó esa sensación de que al final el lazo afectivo entre K y Cream fue superior a la muerte y que algunas veces aunque las personas ya no estén físicamente siempre quedarán los recuerdos y los buenos momentos.

The performances of both Kwon Sang-woo and Lee Bo-young were impeccable and showed a chemistry that made the friendship and love relationship between the two of them more realistic, plus they knew how to represent the pain of the life story of their characters to the point that the title of the film fits the story very well. We can see the pain of having to let go of the person you love because you prefer that to having to see her suffer because of your own pain, for me to see this kind of movies is something I like even if it sounds dramatic or masochistic, but I like to see more than all real stories where the characters are vulnerable and although there was not a happy ending let's say that I was left with the feeling that in the end the bond between K and Cream was superior to death and that sometimes even though people are no longer physically there will always be memories and good times.

Así que si buscan una película que sea asiática o como en este caso Coreana les recomiendo More Than Blue, eso sí tienen que prepararse porque es bastante triste la historia y para algunos puede ser un poco fuerte de ver. Si tienen alguna otra película de este estilo o que sea asiática me puede dejar sus recomendaciones en los comentarios, para finalizar me gustaría terminar con una frase que encaja muy bien con esta historia de amor y drama: Las almas que están destinadas a estar juntas sin importar el tiempo que pase siempre se encontrarán.

So if you are looking for a movie that is Asian or as in this case Korean I recommend More Than Blue, but you have to be prepared because the story is quite sad and for some it can be a little strong to see.
