I COME BACK! | THE SOCIETY OF THE SNOW - REVIEW | [ENG/ESP]

¡Hola, hola, gente de Hive! Espero que estén de maravilla. Es bueno estar por acá de nuevo, entre unas cosas y otras me había costado escribir pero ya estoy de vuelta para seguir en este lindo espacio de la Blockchain (luego les cuento qué he estado haciendo), he regresado para hablar de mi película favorita en lo que va de año, no saben cuánto fue esta película para mí y lo obsesionada que me tiene. Tenemos que hablar de "La Sociedad De La Nieve".

Les quiero adelantar que lloré todo lo que pude llorar pero sobre todo me impacté con locura.

Comencemos con los detalles técnicos porque lo que tiene emocionalmente esta película es un tema mucho más extenso. Bayona encontró esta historia por ahí entre el 2011 y 2012 cuando se documentaba para filmar “Lo Imposible” (otra película increíble), quedó prendado de la historia y estuvo más de diez años con el propósito de filmar esta cinta, ¿el problema principal? Al cine en español no se le otorga tanto presupuesto como al de habla inglesa y Bayona quería una cinta en español.

Cuando Netflix otorgó el presupuesto de 60 millones de euros, comenzó la locura de La Sociedad De La Nieve. Las escenas agónicas al horizonte nevado sin fin, días enteros de filmación en Los Andes para recoger tomas, el maquillaje de los actores que te daba lástima solo verlos y el juego entre la música de tensión, de alegría y silencios crudos es una maravilla.

Creo que el punto donde convergen lo técnico y lo emocional se da en los detalles. Bayona le puso corazón a la película y se nota muchísimo. Aparecen en escena diálogos, lugares, vestimenta y un sinfín de pequeñas cosas que al ojo del espectador no son tan valiosas pero están ahí para hacerlo todo más real para los sobrevivientes (aún hay catorce de ellos con vida), no es necesario que graben a Numa entrando a la verdadera casa de Numa Turcatti, pero lo hacen. Bayona se empeñó en que los actores conocieran a los sobrevivientes, familiares y absorbieran cualquier dato que les sirviera para interpretarlos. Cada actor, aunque para algunos sea su debut, está metido en la piel de su personaje y me parece maravilloso el trabajo actoral.

J.A. Bayona sabía que a los supervivientes lo que no les convencía de adaptaciones anteriores era la falta de sentimiento, la búsqueda del morbo por el canibalismo y la glorificación en exceso de su heroísmo, debido a esto quiso darle voz al sacrificio de aquellos que se quedaron en la montaña y lo logra totalmente. Cambia el enfoque a “haremos lo que sea para salir de aquí, pero si fracasó yo y muero, usenme para que ustedes logren volver a casa”.

La Sociedad De La Nieve fue una cinta que me arrugó el corazón por dos horas y media. Me reí con lágrimas en los ojos, sufrí, me frustré y me sentía muy vulnerable, estaba en mi cama, segura y aún así estaba tan asustada que era como estar en esa montaña. Cuando finalizó la película quería meterme y abrazarlos a todos, no podía dejar de pensar en cómo se sigue viviendo después de pasar algo así.

La Sociedad De La Nieve sin duda es un 5/5 para mí. Sé que hay personas que no les encantó pero también creo que va muy de la mano con qué esperaban de ella. La nominaron al Óscar y no puedo estar más contenta con la noticia.

Hello, hello, Hive people! I hope you are doing great. It's good to be here again, between some things and others I had trouble writing but I'm back to continue in this nice space of the Blockchain (later I'll tell you what I've been doing), I'm back to talk about my favorite movie so far this year, you don't know how much this movie was for me and how obsessed I am with it. We have to talk about Society Of The Snow.

I want to tell you in advance that I cried as much as I could cry but above all I was madly shocked.

Let's start with the technical details because what this film has emotionally is a much larger issue. Bayona found this story somewhere between 2011 and 2012 when he was documenting to film "The Impossible" (another incredible film), he was taken by the story and spent more than ten years with the purpose of filming this movie, the main problem? Spanish language films are not given as much budget as church films and Bayona wanted a film in Spanish.

When Netflix granted the budget of 60 million euros, the madness of Society Of The Snow began. The agonizing scenes at the endless snowy horizon, entire days of filming in the Andes to collect shots, the makeup of the actors that made you feel sorry just to see them and the game between the music of tension, joy and raw silences is a marvel.

I think the point where the technical and the emotional converge is in the details. Bayona put heart into the film and it really shows. Dialogues, places, clothes and an endless number of little things that are not so valuable to the viewer's eye but are there to make everything more real for the survivors (there are still fourteen of them alive), it is not necessary to film Numa entering the real house of Numa Turcatti, but they do. Bayona made a point of having the actors meet the survivors, family members and absorb any information that would help them play them. Each actor, even if for some it is their debut, is in the skin of their character and I think the acting work is wonderful.

J.A. Bayona knew that what the survivors didn't like about previous adaptations was the lack of sentiment, the morbid pursuit of cannibalism and the excessive glorification of their heroism, so he wanted to give voice to the sacrifice of those who stayed on the mountain and he totally succeeds. He shifts the focus to "we'll do whatever it takes to get out of here, but if I fail and die, use me to get you home".

Society Of The Snow was a tape that wrinkled my heart for two and a half hours. I laughed with tears in my eyes, I suffered, I was frustrated and felt very vulnerable, I was in my bed, safe and yet I was so scared it was like being on that mountain. When the movie ended I wanted to jump in and hug them all, I couldn't stop thinking about how you go on living after something like that happens.

Society Of The Snow without a doubt is a 5/5 for me. I know there are people who didn't love it but I also think it goes very much hand in hand with what they expected from it. It was nominated for an Oscar and I couldn't be happier with the news.
