If you want to spend 90 minutes full of terror, the ruins is the movie you must see, it was created in 2008 and is based on a novel of the same name by Scott Smith, who also wrote the screenplay for this movie, filmed in Cancun Mexico, was the perfect environment to develop a story of mystery, disappearances and bloody nature, an original argument that convinced me although its beginning and end did not leave me very satisfied.

I saw this movie some time ago, maybe more than a year ago, but I had not reviewed it; however, I still remember the plot and all the terror, anguish and suspense it gave me. From the beginning I knew it was an old movie, I don't know how to describe it, I guess because of the opaque colors, the first minutes were confusing, I remember a scene with a woman calling on a cell phone and then she is snatched by something, immediately they change the act and a different one comes up with a group of young people in a pool they were foreigners sightseeing.

Their plot was based on the fact that two American couples were in Mexico on vacation, exhausted from the heat. Suddenly another foreigner, I think he was German, comes up and tells them that his brother had disappeared with an archaeologist and that he needed to look for him and asked them to accompany him. At this point it didn't make much sense to me, that a group of friends would decide to help another stranger by risking being robbed or kidnapped, but hey, it's a movie and it's fiction, plus the Americans were bored and want fun.

Si deseas pasar 90 minutos llenos de terror, las ruinas es la película que debes ver, fue creada en el 2008 y está basada en una novela homónima de Scott Smith, quien también escribió el guión para esta película, filmada en Cancún México, fue el ambiente perfecto para desarrollar una historia de misterio, desapariciones y naturaleza sangrienta, un argumento original que me convenció aunque su inicio y final no me dejaron muy satisfecha.

Vi esta película hace tiempo, tal vez más de un año, pero no había realizado la reseña; sin embargo, aún recuerdo la trama y todo el terror, angustia y suspenso que me dio. Desde el inicio supe que era una película antigua, no sé cómo describirlo, supongo que por los colores opacos, los primeros minutos fueron confusos, recuerdo una escena con una mujer llamando por celular y luego es arrebatado por algo, inmediatamente cambian el acto y surge otro diferente con un grupo de jóvenes en una piscina eran extranjeros haciendo turismo.

Su argumento se basó en que dos parejas norteamericanas estaban en México de vacaciones, agotadas del calor. De repente, otro extranjero, creo que era alemán, se acerca y les cuenta que su hermano había desaparecido con una arqueóloga y que necesitaba buscarlo y les pidió que lo acompañaran. En este punto no tenía mucho sentido para mí, que un grupo de amigos decidieron ayudar a otro desconocido arriesgándose a que los robaran o secuestraran, pero bueno, es una película y es ficción, además los americanos estaban aburridos y quieren diversión.

Well, the whole group went up thinking that they would find the German's brother and the archaeologist, and what they found was a camp and in the center of the pyramid a well similar to the water wells. They were all upset because one of them had already died, they were thirsty and did not know how to return, some decided to go down to see what was there since the cell phone of the missing person was ringing and others wanted to return as they could, in that the group that wanted to return found that the pyramid was surrounded by all these indigenous or villagers including children, They were armed with arrows, machetes and so on, because they did not want them to return, at that moment one of the tourists pulled up a vine and threw it at a child and immediately the same or indigenous people killed them, this scene impressed me I did not expect it, which meant that all the fear was towards the plants.

What I have told above happened in a daytime environment, in the middle of nature, the darkness of the night was not needed to generate terror in the viewer, rather it was the prelude to what was to come. The young people spent a night in that pyramid, terrible things happened, accidents, they themselves had to mutilate and cut members of their bodies to survive, although they tried to reason and use logic to escape and evaluated the capabilities of each one and distributed responsibilities such as the distribution of food, surveillance among others, they had to make difficult and cruel decisions.

As the minutes passed I became more interested, I felt it lasted too long but it was my response to so much anguish, horror is not a genre I like but in this case together with the story I can say that I liked the film in general, the ending was left open to give rise to a sequel and while looking for images I found out that they did make it, The Ruins 2, maybe I will look for it since I remember the first one quite a bit. This story invites you to respect sacred things, not to be carried away by curiosity and to observe before acting, I invite you to watch it because the events happen in a very interesting way and the values of the characters are manifested as friendship, love and empathy, no bad feelings or anti-values were developed and in a horror movie it is important to highlight this aspect.

Yo pensaba que los indígenas se los iban a comer 🤣, tengo un mal concepto de ellos por lo visto. Bueno todo el grupo subió pensando que arriba encontrarían al hermano del alemán y a la arqueóloga, y lo que encontraron fue un campamento y en todo el centro de la pirámide un pozo parecido a los de agua. Todos alterados porque ya había muerto uno de ellos, tenían sed y no sabían cómo regresar, unos decidieron bajar para ver que había ya que sonaba el celular del desaparecido y otros quisieron regresar como diera lugar, en eso el grupo que quiso regresar se encontró que la pirámide estaba rodeaba de todos estos indígenas o aldeanos incluyendo niños, mujeres y hombres ancianos, ellos estaban armados con flechas, machetes cosas asi, porque no querían que regresaran, en ese momento una de las turistas arrancó una enredadera y la lanzó pegandosela a un niño e inmediatamente los mismos o indígenas los mataron, esta escena me impresionó no me lo esperaba, lo que quería decir que todo el miedo era hacia las plantas.

Lo que he contado anteriormente sucedió en un ambiente de día, en plena naturaleza, no se necesito la oscuridad de la noche para generar en el espectador terror, más bien fue la antesala para lo que venía. Los jóvenes pasaron una noche en esa pirámide, sucedieron cosas terribles, accidentes, ellos mismo tuvieron que mutilarse y cortarse miembros de sus cuerpos para sobrevivir, aunque intentaron razonar y usar la lógica para escapar y evaluaron las capacidades de cada uno y repartieron responsabilidades como la distribución de los alimentos, la vigilancia entre otros, tuvieron que tomar decisiones difíciles y crueles.

A medida que pasaban los minutos me interesaba más, sentí que duró mucho pero era mi respuesta a tanta angustia, el terror no es un género que me guste pero en este caso unido a la historia puedo decir que la película me gusto de forma general, el final quedo abierto como para dar pié a una secuela y mientras buscaba las imágenes me enteré que si la hicieron, Las Ruinas 2, tal vez me anime a buscarla ya que recuerdo bastante la primera. Esta historia invita a respetar las cosas sagradas, a no dejarse llevar por la curiosidad y a observar antes de actuar, los invitó a verla ya que los hechos suceden de una forma muy interesante y los valores de los personajes se manifiestan como la amistad, el amor y la empatía no se desarrollaron malos sentimientos ni antivalores y en una película de terror es importante resaltar este aspecto.
