👾 Parasyte: The Grey Was A Pleasant Surprise ! 👾

Trumpy boy back with another cine review!

So, a couple years ago someone here on hive suggested me to watch an anime called Parasyte:The Maxim. That was a show I wholeheartedly enjoyed as a scifi fan and it won a spot in my list of favorite anime.

Dunno how true to the manga it was, but I enjoyed the alien invasion (short of) plot, the fights, the comedy and the philosophical/ecological mumbo jumbo.

If you haven't watched it, go and watch it. It's good. Really good!

Which brings us to.. Parasyte: The Grey!

Now this made its appearance on Netflix a few days ago and it's a live action adaptation of the manga. Dunno if it follows the canon story, but it has a different protagonist then the anime.

Jung Soo In, who is infected with a parasite on her hand and start a strange cohabitation as it failed to steal her brain. Seol Kang Woo chases a parasitic water to find his missing sister, and Choi Jun Kyung is the team leader of the parasitic life team 'The Grey', and lives only to exterminate the parasitic water after losing her husband to the parasitic water.source

Usually I stay the fuck out of live action adaptations of my favorite animes due to past trauma. The little I have seen in the past was just too cringy and too shitty 😂

Regardless, I decided to give Parasyte: The Grey a try since I had nothing better to watch and I was just curious of how it would turn out to be...

The series was released two days ago and it's just 6 eps long and I just finished watching them...

And....I am glad it wasn't a total waste of my time. Actually...It was pretty damn good! 😆

Let's first with what is the most important thing for me for these kinds of show. The special effects! They were more then good enough imo and didn't look cringy as often is the case. They just did a really good job depicting the monsters and considering how they are depicted in the manga I think that wasn't an easy job.

The fights and choreography were also more than decent enough although I wouldn't mind a bit more action.

Much like all the Korean stuff I have watched, acting was once again just...excellent. And the occasional hot Korean babe does make an appearance 🍌

The philosophical mumbo jumbo was not as strong in this tv adaptation, which only makes sense considering the limited run time. This can be good or bad depending on your taste. Me, didn't care much so no problemo here.

Overall....It was much better than what I expected! If you are into aliens and scifi and shit like that it's a must watch. Just make sure to watch the anime first, Netflix has that one too. Chances are you will love it!

Somehow Netflix is pleasantly surprising me lately. The previous show I watched was the 3 body problem and that was pretty good too.

I'll give Parasyte: The Grey a solid 8/10. I just wish it wasn't that short as it left me wanting for more. Oh well :)
