You just made me want to rewatch this because at the time I first watched it, I did not care about anything more than just seeing the next episode, so I binged through the whole series.
My favorite character was Klaus, and to me he was the most powerful, I believe the true length of his power were revealed in the latter seasons. Number 5 went from being interesting to just being annoying in the series, maybe I'll have a change of mind when I rewatch this.

You are actually right; according to the comic book, Klaus was the most powerful and at a point, he became immortal because he now controls death itself.
I stopped watching at season 3 and I don't know if I should give it a try again.
